Overbrook Residential Program is available to those students who live to far to commute every day. The students have a devoted and supportive staff.
The Residential overnight and morning staff team members are, Elizabeth Jacobs, Naomi Harris and Shawn Waters. Their responsibilities include but are not limited to, ensuring students are awake ontime to prepare for daily classes and other school activities. Also they assist students with selecting an outfit for the day and breakfast.
After school students return to the dorm and are greeted by the evening staff. The evening staff are energetic and ready to engage the students in educational and fun-filled activities. The team members are Crystal Jordan, Antoinette Morales and Joe Binstead.
Their responsibilities include helping the students carry out their individual goals, and ensuring that school work is managed and completed. Some of these skills include: laundry, personal hygiene,caring for their living quarters and cooking.
The residential program students are busy throughout the school year. Students participate in a variety of on and off campus activities. One goal of the residential program is to help the students appreciate the cultural diversity of the City of Philadelphia. Therefore one night a month staff and students will eat at a different restaurant. After eating the staff will engage students in a conversation about the taste of the food and the music at he restaurant. This has proven to be interesting and exciting experience for the students. The feedback students have given has been positive and humorous. The students also enrich themselves by attending some of the arts that the City and the surrounding area has to offer. We attend Plays, Musicals, and different Sporting Events. Each month the residential program also hosts a Bingo Night with our Overbrook School for the Blind distinguished Alumni.
